Swamped with your writing assignments? Take the weight off your shoulder!
Did you collect rocks as a child? Do you still? Do you have a child in your life who does? What draws you to a rock that you would pick up or take a closer look at? The shape? Striated colors? Sparkly specks? The smoothness? Perhaps you choose rocks based on their likelihood of being good skippers? Many of us enjoy the beauty and function of the rocks around us, but we don’t often know what kind of rocks they actually are or why they are found where they are. Rock collecting is a great activity to incorporate with physical exercise, like a nature walk, or even a walk around a neighborhood. To ensure that you can answer some of the questions that may come from children on nature walk like this: Identify one igneous rock, one sedimentary rock, and one metamorphic rock and describe how each could be formed. Why did you select the rocks that you did? Have you seen these rocks in nature, and if so, where?
