Swamped with your writing assignments? Take the weight off your shoulder!
This is a two part paper.
The directions to the first and the second is below.
In a paper of approximately 700 words, please respond to the prompt below. The article about Infowars that is in this module includes definitions of filter bubbles and echo chambers, as well as distinctions between misinformation and disinformation, so you should make use of that article and other materials in the module in your response.
This module dealt with the spread of misinformation and disinformation and, in the case of Alex Jones, the consequences of spreading misinformation and disinformation. All of us have encountered misinformation on social media. What are some examples of misinformation or disinformation that you have encountered on social media and how have you reacted to this type of content? Where has this content been found, and what do you know about the credibility of the source? Please be specific with your examples. Then, consider your own presence and interactions on social media. To what degree are you aware of your own filter bubble, and what is it (in other words, what are your sources of information and how might that impact your filter bubble)? Do you think that you are susceptible to the operation of an echo chamber on social media? Why or why not? Do you take actions to avoid an echo chamber? If so, what are they? If not, what could you do?
2.) For your discussion board, please make your initial post (approximately 250 words) a response to ONE of the prompts below:
To what degree should social media companies be considered responsible for the content that circulates on their platforms?
Are the removal of pages or banning accounts on social media platforms instances of censorship? Does it matter that they are owned by private companies with self-determined user policies?
For the title of your post, please use "Responsibility" if you are responding to the first prompt and "Censorship" if you are responding to the second one–this will help folks who are responding to you know which prompt you used.
This should be posted by midnight on Wednesday.
Then, by midnight on Sunday, respond to at least two of your peers in posts of approximately 200 words each–again, though, we would love this to be more of a back and forth and more discussion-like, so we encourage you to both reply to people who respond to your posts and respond to more than two posts.
